Florence, capital of Italy’s Tuscany region, is home to many masterpieces of Renaissance art and architecture. One of its most iconic sights is the Duomo, a cathedral with a terracotta-tiled dome engineered by Brunelleschi and a bell tower by Giotto. The Galleria dell'Accademia displays Michelangelo’s “David” sculpture. The Uffizi Gallery exhibits Botticelli’s “The Birth of Venus” and da Vinci’s “Annunciation.” But just beyond the main sights, you’ll find some of the city’s off-the-beaten-path gems, with way less crowds. San Miniato al Monte is worth the climb for the frescoes and unbeatable views. Oltrarno, just across the river, offers plenty of vintage shops, boutiques, and cool cafes.

To reach the conference venue from the central train station "Santa Maria Novella" (SMN), it is possible by walking, take a bus or cab:

By public transport: there are 2 different bus lines leading to the vicinity of the conference venue: the first is line number C2, departing from the stop located near of the station "Stazione via Panzani" and to the "Annigoni" stop, from which to move on foot; the second is line 14, departing from the stop located in front of the station "Piazza Adua" and to the "Gramsci Porta alla Croce" stop from which to continue by walking. By taxi: getting around Florence by cab is a convenient if somewhat expensive option. It's possible to take a taxi right outside the central train station or call the dedicated number to book your transfer. Taxi Number: 055 4242.

By rental car: is highly discouraged to m ove around Florence by car, given the presence of many roads with restricted traffic zones and the lack of parking spaces. 1.   From Florence Airport (Peretola) to city center:

By public transport: there is a shuttle tram T2 that runs from the airport to the "Piazza dell'Unità" stop close to the central rail station of Florence. The tram runs every five to ten minutes and a ticket cost € 1.50 per person.

Taxi transfer from Florence airport: a taxi ride costs between 22 € (day) and 25 € (evening) and € 1 extra for each piece of luggage. If you want to book a reliable taxi without stress, you can book it before your trip. The taxi driver will then pick you up from the airport. Taxi Number: 055 4242.

By rental car: It is about twenty minutes by car to the center of Florence, but it is highly not recommended to move around Florence by car, given the presence of many roads with restricted traffic zones and the lack of parking spaces. 2.   From Pisa Airport (Galileo Galilei) to Florence: 

By train: the best method to get to Florence from Pisa Airport is the PisaMover + train combination. The Pisa Mover is a kind of funicular railway that connects Pisa Central Station with the airport; one-way tickets cost 5€ and connections are made daily from 6 am until midnight every 7 to 8 minutes. After this you have to buy a train ticket from Trenitalia for about 9€ one way, from Pisa Central Station to Florence Santa Maria Novella (SMN).

By bus: it is possible to make the entire journey from Pisa Aiport to Florence by bus, that will take about an hour. This bus runs 17 times a day and drops you off at the Guidoni station in Florence. By car: From Pisa Airport you can also rent a car at the nearby car rental offices to which you will be taken by shuttle bus. From there it is more than an hour's drive to Florence. Info: Car Rental.

By taxi: If you opt for a taxi, it is advisable to book one in advance and the driver will then pick you up at the terminal with a name sign and take you from the airport to your hotel in Florence. 3.   From Rome Airport (Fiumicino Leonardo da Vinci) to Florence:

By train: the best method to get to Florence from Rome Airport is by train, in about 2h and 30min. From the Rome Airport you can take a train "Leonardo Express" to Rome's main station, "Roma Termini", where you can make a change and take an additional train to Florence Santa Maria Novella (SMN). 4.   From Milan Airport (Malpensa) to Florence:

By train: the best method to get to Florence from Milan Airport is by train, in about 3h and 30min. It's necessary to make two train changes at different stations, to reach Florence. The first train goes from Milan Airport to Milan main station, "Milano Centrale". From there, a second train goes from "Milano Centrale" to "Florence Santa Maria Novella (SMN)". Travel general tips:

1. It is highly recommended to reach the city of Florence from neighboring airports using the train and not a rental car;

2. It is strongly discouraged to move around Florence using a car, due to the lack of parking and the significant restrictions on the city's road system.
